Obituary for Emogene "Jean" Burke (Herald)

Emogene "Jean" H. Burke, 98, passed away at home on Saturday, October 27, following an extended illness. She was born on July 24, 1920 and lived her entire life in Prestonsburg. Jean was employed by Southern Bell and was one of the first switchboard operators in Prestonsburg. A life-long charter member of the Community United Methodist Church, she held numerous jobs and has claimed this was a big source of pride for her. She is preceded in death by her parents. Ballard Herald, Della Risner Herald, her husband, Hern. D. Burke, and a brother, Ballard Clinton Herald. Jean is survived by her daughter, Della (Mike) Burke Ormerod and a granddaughter, Kristen Ormerod. Visitation will be Sunday, October 28 from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church with funeral services the following day, October 29 at 2 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church with Rev. John Carwell officiating. In lieu of flowers, family has requested donations be made to Community United Methodist Church.
